My Pops has still got it!

Dang, I just realized something. For my last birthday my dad sent me a check for $42. I was like WTF….how the hell do you come up with 42? Did he mean to write $50? Did he leave off a 1 or somethin. I know he hasn’t read Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Universe (and if you haven’t you won’t get that) so wassup? I seriously thought he was getting Alzheimer’s or something. My birthday was Oct 17 – TWO MONTHS AGO – and I just RIGHT NOW realized that 42 was how old I am. He may very well be losing it…but that sucker is still sharper than me.
ROFLMAO

Mother gets up to 4 years for posing : The Morning Call Online
What do people do at night that makes them wake up and think having Junior photograph them butt naked so they can find an internet hookup is a good idea?

Mother gets up to 4 years for posing
She had her children take photos of her nude, prosecutor says.
By Tyra Braden Of The Morning Call
A former Allentown woman who struck seductive nude poses and ordered her 12-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter to photograph her showed up in court Friday wearing jeans with ”Booty” emblazoned on the left rear pocket and ”Licious” on the right in what appeared to be rhinestones.
Northampton County Judge Stephen G. Baratta sent Julie Figueroa, 43, to state prison for nine months to four years. Figueroa’s adult daughter jumped to her feet as deputy sheriffs clamped handcuffs on Figueroa’s wrists. ”Excuse me!” she shouted. ”Can I say goodbye to my mother?”
”Ma’am,” Baratta said sharply, ”Be quiet.”
”This isn’t fair,” the sobbing daughter screamed.
Figueroa’s daughter continued to cry as she was escorted by a deputy from the courtroom. Baratta told another deputy he would not object to allowing the daughter to speak with Figueroa once Figueroa had been locked in a holding cell.
Figueroa pleaded guilty Oct. 17 to endangering the welfare of children. At that hearing, the adult daughter did not provide her name, but said she was 20. She told Baratta her mother had ”mental disabilities.”
At Friday’s sentencing hearing, Baratta said Figueroa had tried to minimize her actions and initially claimed she was ”a victim of false allegations.” Figueroa was living on Pawnee Street in Bethlehem in March. It was there that she posed and had the children snap photos with a cell phone.
Assistant District Attorney Patricia C. Broscius said Figueroa, when confronted, claimed she posed topless. However, Broscius said, the photographs police recovered showed Figueroa nude and in sexual positions. Figueroa’s attorney, Gilbert J. Negrete Jr. of Bethlehem, told the judge Figueroa had her children take the photos so she could put them on the Internet to find a boyfriend.
He added that ”it wasn’t her intention for her son to have the pictures.”
Baratta said the boy not only had the photos but showed them to some of his friends. Figueroa was charged when her estranged husband saw the pictures and notified police. Negrete told Baratta that Figueroa takes full responsibility for what happened. He suggested that Figueroa needs psychiatric care and not prison.
”What do you think the impact was for the children?” Baratta asked. ”At 12 and 13 their mother involved them in a sexcapade…Aren’t they emotionally scarred for the rest of their lives? Does she really get it? She used her children as a tool to promote her own prurient, and I’m going to say bizarre, harmful goals in attracting men on the Internet.”
Baratta said if he didn’t send Figueroa to prison, other parents would feel free to commit similar crimes. Figueroa said she knows she was wrong, but that having her children taken away was punishment enough.
”I’m thinking that maybe you shouldn’t be allowed to have children,” Baratta said. ”It’s all about you. It’s all about you and your fun and games.”
I’m just sayin…

Pit Bull Puppy Chewed Off Baby’s Toes While Parents Slept

BOSSIER CITY, La. — A pit bull puppy chewed off four of a baby girl’s toes while the child’s parents slept, police here said Monday. The parents were booked on charges of child desertion and criminal negligence and were being held in the Bossier Parish Jail pending an initial court appearance.
Police said the parents were sleeping on a mattress in the living room of their residence and the month-old girl was in an infant seat beside them when the puppy began chewing on their baby’s toes.
Mary Shannon Hansche, 22, and Christopher Wayne Hansche, 26, told police they woke up to the sound of the baby crying, found her mangled foot and took her to the hospital about 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
“They did not see the dog injuring the child,” police spokesman Mark Natale said.
The girl underwent surgery Sunday at Sutton’s Children’s Hospital in Shreveport. There was no way to reattach the child’s toes, Natale said Monday.
The puppy was 6 weeks old and had no record of receiving its shots and will be quarantined for 10 days to check for rabies. Natale said he did not know what the puppy’s fate would be after that.
“The puppy itself was just several weeks old! I mean this was essentially a puppy,” Natale said.
“This puppy might have been trying to nurse on the toes of this baby,” veterinarian Michael Dale speculated. “I know that sounds a little far fetched, but that’s the first thing that comes to my mind.”
Teresa Miller, who sold the puppy to the Hansches, was skeptical the dog did it. “He didn’t chew on anything while he was with me. Out of all of them (in the litter), he was the least chewy.”
Another veterinarian, Dr. Valri Brown, said if the puppy chewed off the infant’s toes, it would not have happened quickly. “It would have to be a period of time — maybe at least an hour,” she said.
Meanwhile, the puppy’s been quarantined at Bossier City’s animal control office for the next 10 days to check for rabies. Natale said he did not know what the puppy’s fate would be after that.
When she is released from the hospital, the child will be placed in a foster home until the case against her parents is settled, officials said.
I have a problem with this story on several levels. First and foremost is the fact that the parents have a mattress in the living room? WTF is in the bedroom? A Chevy up on blocks? Judging by the size of the house they showed on the news the mattress probably took up the entire living room…even if it was a single.
Number two – why are they sleeping while Junior is sitting in a baby chair? Did they intend to leave the lil fella there all night? That can’t be good for his back.
Number three – How long do you figure they were knocked the f*ck out while Fido went to town? I’d bet there were more than a few beer bottles strewn about the room…maybe a blunt or three.
Number four – I believe this proves that the safety of pit bulls around children isn’t just about how you raise them. It’s about how Bubba and Wynonna raise the pit bull’s parents. I actually can’t even fault pit bulls in this case, although I usually do. This is just stupid people doing stupid sh*t.
Linux upgrades

I updated my home computer to the latest and greatest version of Ubuntu Linux recently. I had a couple of unsolvable issues with the previous release, Dapper Drake.
The most annoying problem occurred after the first bootup every day. I could not open any additional application windows after the first two. After that I could click all day but nothing else would open until I rebooted, even though everything already open was still responsive.
The second issue was that when I went to shutdown..I COULDN’T! The Shutdown and Restart buttons were completely missing from the dialog box. After I rebooted once they would return. This same sequence of events occurred every single for 4-5 months.I think it started when I tried to install XGL/Compiz, the 3D window system similar to Vista’s Aero GUI.
Anyway, all is well in Computerland now…almost. I still desperately want to decrease the computer footprint in my apt. Right now I’ve got a mid-tower with dual 1.8Ghz Xeon processors and a ginormous 19″ CRT monitor. It takes up a lot of space AND makes so much noise that I can’t leave it on at night. I want to replace this setup with a quad-core Shuttle mini box and a 20″ LCD. The main issue is that, even though this computer is now nearly five years old, its still pretty darn fast…fast enough that I don’t NEED an upgrade. Oh well.
In other news it looks like a friend is going to hook me up with a sweet cabin in the Tennessee mountains for next to nothing. Jacuzzi tub inside, hot tub outside, pool table, plasma TV. Belle and I could be getting some much needed time away far from the madding crowd. Just need to schedule the time off.
