Oklahoma woman goes into labor after quaffing “Milwaukee’s Best”

JULY 15–A pregnant Oklahoma woman who split a case of beer with her boyfriend shortly before giving birth last month is facing felony child neglect charges. Melissa Irene Tanner, a 37-year-old mother of seven, had a blood alcohol content nearly four times the state’s .08 limit, according to the below probable cause affidavit. Tanner’s baby, a girl born June 30, had a BAC of .21, nearly three times the Oklahoma limit. Tanner, who first told a nurse that she was unaware of the pregnancy, was arrested and tossed into the Washington County lockup, where she is being held in lieu of $30,000 bail. Tanner, pictured at right in a booking photo, drank a case of beer a week during her pregnancy, and apparently preferred “the cheap stuff,” according to the affidavit. In fact, a friend quoted by cops said that after the baby was born, she asked Tanner what the girl was going to be named. Tanner, the friend told deputies, replied, “Maybe Milwaukee’s Best.”

Oh for Christsakes….political correctness is just going way too fucking far for my blood, thank you very little. This has caused my old school, University of West Georgia, to start investigating a change in mascot as well. They are currently known as the Braves with an Indian mascot.

WASHINGTON — A poll of American Indians found that an overwhelming majority of them are not bothered by the name of the Washington Redskins.

Only 9 percent of those polled said the name of the NFL team is “offensive,” while 90 percent said it’s acceptable, according to the University of Pennsylvania’s National Annenberg Election Survey, released Friday.

Annenberg polled 768 Indians in every state except Hawaii and Alaska from Oct. 7, 2003, to Sept. 20, 2004.

Coming To America

I just finished reading Roots for the very first time. Why the hell didn’t I read this book earlier? I think everyone in America should read this book. I’ve never felt so proud to be African-American in my life. The first 100 pages or so were pretty boring but once I reached the point where Kunta Kinte was captured by the slave traders I was absolutely riveted…I couldn’t put it down. I think I read the last 150 pages in one day.
I would love to trace my family genealogy back to Africa the way Alex Haley did. I’d love to know more about my Indian heritage too. My dad’s mother was 1/2 Indian and I don’t even know what tribe. I know relatives have tried and reached a dead end fairly quickly. Both my parents are from the same area in rural South Carolina and the county courthouse burnt down around 1910 or so. There might be something at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. There’s a Wingate college in North Carolina. Sometimes I wonder if that family owned my forebearers.
