Another unnecessary cyclist death :(

The News-Gazette.com: Woman is sentenced for bicyclist’s death

Things like this make me so angry I can’t see straight. I want to grab this lil bitch and shake some reality into her. A young man with a long life in front of him is dead. His life has been snuffed out because this punk bitch just had to download a fucking ringtone while she was driving a car.

State’s Attorney Julia Rietz doesn’t fair much better in my eyes. I just cannot believe they couldn’t make a case for a stronger charge than “improper lane usage”. Improper lane change? WTF is that? WTF happened to involuntary manslaughter? WTF happened to vehicular manslaughter? There are still too many people out there that just don’t believe cyclists have a right to share the road.

People – listen to me. Put the fucking phone down while you’re driving the car. If the call is that important pull the f*ck over and talk! Personally, I think talking using cellphones without a headset should be illegal in the U.S. I hate when people call me when i’m in the car and this is why.

This girl seems to have no remorse whatsoever for her actions. She doesn’t seem to get it or want to get it. She has a Myspace blog. I’m going to send her a message and give her a piece of my mind and if you’re a friend of mine you will do the same.

I suppose I should really upset with the DA for not coming up with more appropriate charges. I am quite sure had the victim been a young mother pushing a baby carriage she would have found a way to make more serious charges stick. Shame on you, Julia Rietz….shame on the system.

It’s on like Donkey Kong!

I have been considering doing something for the past two years and I’ve finally decided to make the step. I have decided to do the AIDS/Lifecycle event next year. It’s a 7-day 545-mile bike ride June 3-9, 2007, from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

It involves a major commitment on two levels. First, the distance. The farthest I’ve ever ridden in a week is 225 miles and this is more than double that amount. Second, in order to do the event I have to raise at least $2,500 in donations for AIDS related charities.

I’ve been leery to make a commitment that large since I don’t know that many people in California and I work for a very small company so there won’t be easy pickings there. However, this week I put out some feelers amongst my Internet friends, the majority of whom don’t even know my first name, and it looks like a good many of them have agreed to help me out.

I won’t start officially raising money until January 1, even though some are already asking where to send the money. I don’t want to pinch people too hard over the holidays.

Once I start asking for money I can’t back out and not do the ride. That should be sufficient to keep me on the bike all winter and off the couch…like biking thru a Southern California winter is a traumatic experience to begin with. I need to get some lights for my bike so I can ride after work even during the week.

The people on BikeForums.net are fun to ride and socialize with, plus they’re keeping me motivated to get in shape. I set up an online calendar for everyone to keep track of upcoming group rides. This should be a fun experience.

Bike porn!

I have about 5 posts that I’m too lazy to write up. Anyway, I finally built up a new bike. Actually the only things new are the frame, fork, stem and handlebars. GRRRR!!!

So UT beat UGA. Scratch that….so UT whupped UGA. I was not suprised considering the way our offense has played the last two weeks. The freshman QB’s were not getting the job done at all.

As I predicted one of us was going to be extremely upset and unfortunately that someone is me. I was handling it fairly well until about 30 minutes after the game ended…then I got the call. Yes, THE call. from Belle…at a time of day she pretty much never calls. The “I’m not going to gloat and say anything but I’m kinda hoping you feel it anyway” call. I did not handle that well at all. Especially after she decided to say the words you NEVER say to someone from the South.

She consoles me with the phrase “it’s only a football game”. The insult of all insults. It was pretty much downhill from there on. As anyone who has spent more than 24 hours in the South can tell you UT-UGA is NOT just a football game. Matter of fact football is NEVER just a football game…maybe it is if you’re a fan of Vandy or the West Georgia Wolves who are now 0-5 for the season with only two even remotely winnable games left. Southerners are fond of saying “football is life, everything else is just details”.

After last year’s game Belle refused to even discuss the game…and she’s a girl. I’m pretty sure she’s never strapped on the shoulder pads and heard the “click clack” (Under Armour commercial). It’s been twe….yeah, it’s been a long time since I have either but I still do the living room dance like I’m the head coach on the sideline instructing the QB where the open receiver is.

So there you have it. Belle has possession of the Dogbone trophy. (both schools have dogs for mascots even though UGA VII is way cooler). We haven’t spoken since the call. I suspect her phone will be ringing later tonight…whimper.

A no-win situation

Today is the worst day of the college football season. The day I’ve been dreading for months now. Well, the night of the Georgia-Florida game could be worse but that’s not for another two weeks.

Tonight it’s my #10 ranked Georgia Bulldogs versus Belle’s Tennessee Vols. No matter who wins one of us will be extremely upset and the winner won’t be doing any gloating if they know what’s good for them.

UGA has played like absolute crap the last two weeks so I was not expecting much from the Dogs, especially since the last time they played in Athens TN took the opening kickoff; marched right down the field for a TD and ultimately won even though UGA was ranked #3 at the time. I even avised a guy at work to bet against UGA and i’m sure he did. Apparently Joe T(ereshinski) is back at QB after hurting his ankle in the first game and the Dogs are playing well in the first half.

Even though this could be a good day for the Dogs it may not be such a good night for me. Either way the loser of this game can pretty much write off getting to the SEC championship game. I was hoping LSU would beat Florida earlier today and that didn’t happen. We both hate Florida. I’ve got my fingers crossed; for what I’m not sure….maybe a 21-21 tie or a meteor strike cancelllng the game. We shall see.

Stupid is as stupid duhs…part three

So Cinncinnati Bengal teammates Odell Thurman (UGA), Reggie McNeal (A&M), and Chris Henry (WV) are out on the town at 3AM on a Sunday night (monday morning?). They’re knocking a few back celebrating a win over Pittsburgh. It comes time to go home and even though it’s Henry’s car he is apparently a bit knackered after catching 5 passes in the game. Thurman and McNeal are fresh as daisies because they didn’t do a damn thing all game. Odell is sitting out a 4-game suspension for missing a drug test and Reggie…..well, he’s just Reggie. In their infinite wisdom these rocket scientists collectively decide Odell should be the designated driver.

Lo and behold, Cincy’s finest pull them over only to find Odell has done enough 12oz curls to register a 0.18 BAC level…oh yeah, Einstein was coming off suspension next week. Now he’s staring at a minimum one-year suspension from the NFL.

How stupid do you have to be, people?
