1. Dog has the right to think and say whatever he wants (except BOMB in an airport)
2. The rest of us have the right to call him a racist for saying it.
3. he doesn’t owe an apology to anyone other than his son and the girl, if even them.
4. As should have been done with the Don Imus situation, let the market decide the punishment. A&E doesn’t need to cancel his show. If enough people are put off by what he said the ratings will go down, advertising revenue will decrease and it will be canceled on it’s own merits.

That concludes this episode of “Life According To Dubbayoo”. NEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought I was going to have to bury the Ipod yesterday. The first thing I noticed was that it wasn’t fully charged even thought it had been connected to my pc for 3 full days. Then when I started to use it all the buttons were functioning properly except I couldn’t power it off. From there the battery drained from 70% to zero within 30 minutes. I searched the support forum and found a way to hard reset it. That seemed to work fine. Thank God.

My water intake jihad seems to be working. Yesterday I killed three 32oz water bottles and didn’t have any soda. I have been flavoring it with Crystal Light tea but whatever it takes. Last night I made Steve’s Famous Angel Hair pasta w/sun-dried tomato pesto and Italian sausage. BTW, Eggo pancakes are teh sex! Man, those things are awesome.

I love CSI but David Caruso is the worst actor on the planet. Ever charactor he plays (that works) is pretty much the same guy as Detective John Kelly from NYPD Blue. That was a show with great writing and a great ensemble cast that he just got sucked along in the vapor trail of. Apparently his agent convinces him he can act and now is the time to hit the big screen (translation – we need to milk this cow for all it’s worth before people figure out you really can’t). He makes us suffer thru a string of forgettable movies leaving no doubt that he can’t carry a movie in a bucket. Now he’s back with CSI Miami. Horatio is pretty Detective John Kelly wearing sunglasses and driving a Hummer. I’m beginning to wonder if his brain is just incapable of memorizing more than two lines at once. Caruso is the new David Hasselhoff…only without the looks and even less talent. I think David Spade pretty much sums it up perfectly here.

Perfectly safe for work but you still wanna think twice about watching

Saturday nite I went to see an Oscar Wilde play called Salome at the Wadsworth Theatre. I got dragged to it by the roommate who didn’t want to go by herself. Yes, this is the same roommate that two weeks ago called me the biggest jerkass she’s ever met. Bigger than the ex husband that stuck her with two car leases than ran us (I say us because I helped pay them off) over $1,000/month for five years. Who the hell leases a car for five years? Smaller jerks than me apparently. Don’t even get me started on the back taxes (which I didn’t help with).

One of the cool things about living in L.A. is you can go to just about any play at just about any playhouse/theatre and see Hollywood stars up close and in person. The star of this show was Al Pacino. However there were a few faces you’d know if you’re a big tv watcher. Geoffrey Owens, who played Alvin (the oldest daughter’s husband) on The Cosby Show was in it. It was directed by Estelle Parsons who was Roseanne’s mom on Roseanne. Also Roxanne Hart, who I recognized, I just didn’t know where from…turns out she was on Chicago Hope.

Anyway, the play was pretty good. I’m not sure if it was supposed to be a comedy or if people were simply laughing at Al Pacino’s lines because they were in awe. There was one part where I think he forgot a line and he improvised. That was funny.
In other news I rode 15 miles today. It totally sucked but it was nice to get out. Overall it was a good week on the bike. Next week should be even better.

I think I will continue to read one book per month while I try to hit my weekly goal of cycling 100 miles per week. The really good news is the days are now long enough for me to ride after work. That probably means less running which I don’t really care for anyway. We shall see.

I have probably watched 6-7 hours of television total, which is about where I expected to be at this point. I have finished two books – Every Second Counts by Lance Armstrong and Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. That makes 720 pages in total so I’ve already exceeded my goal there. I started The Green Mile by Stephen King yesterday, which is about 400 pages. I’m not getting as much cycling in as I hoped. I rode an hour after work yesterday and today. Now that I have enough daylight after work I’m gonna try hittin it three weekdays plus weekends.

edit – splurged on a cheeseburger and fries for lunch, but I did have a diet coke.

I’m pretty shocked that Marty even made it to the final. I didn’t watch the show religiously but I remember his performance in the very first show. He grabbed some girl by the hair and yanked it pretty hard a couple of times and for longer than he needed to to get the effect. I thought the INXS guys woulda kicked him just for that. Anyway, I don’t think his voice has enough range so I can’t see him lasting more than one album, if that. He just sings too flat.
I couldn’t get past MiG’s ears. They stick out past his hair so much he looks like he could play one of the hobbits from Lord of the Rings w/o any makeup. He’s just got a weird look goin on.

I just finished reading Roots for the very first time. Why the hell didn’t I read this book earlier? I think everyone in America should read this book. I’ve never felt so proud to be African-American in my life. The first 100 pages or so were pretty boring but once I reached the point where Kunta Kinte was captured by the slave traders I was absolutely riveted…I couldn’t put it down. I think I read the last 150 pages in one day.
I would love to trace my family genealogy back to Africa the way Alex Haley did. I’d love to know more about my Indian heritage too. My dad’s mother was 1/2 Indian and I don’t even know what tribe. I know relatives have tried and reached a dead end fairly quickly. Both my parents are from the same area in rural South Carolina and the county courthouse burnt down around 1910 or so. There might be something at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. There’s a Wingate college in North Carolina. Sometimes I wonder if that family owned my forebearers.
