The Courtesy Call
Posted by Dubbayoo | Filed under Amore & Vita, General
Ever given one? Ever gotten one? Who gets one? Who doesn’t? How soon does it come? What form does it come in? WTF is the courtesy call you say? Simple. The courtesy call could also be called the respect call since it is, in most situations, a measure of the respect you have for someone. The courtesy call is about if, when and how you notify former significant others or booty calls of news that either directly or indirectly relates to them.
A friend of mine just found out that an ex-SO of hers is now engaged. Rather than get a personal call or even an email she found out via the Internet. How much time has to go by in that case before a courtesy call is no longer warranted?
Suppose someone you were with found out they got an STD. Maybe it was after you…maybe it was before. Is a courtesy call always warranted? How far apart do the instances of them sleeping with you and them hearing about a possible STD need to be before a courtesy call is not warranted?
What if you’re now dating your friend’s ex or his/her sister? Do they get a courtesy call before the clothes ever come off? Should you wait until you’re exclusive?
What if you’re divorced and so serious about someone else that you’re ready to move out of state with them? Do they have a right to know regardless of whether you still get along or not? Obviously if there are children involved the situation is different.
I had a personal situation where I felt a courtesy call would’ve been prudent. It happened over 10 years ago after I had gone fishing off the company pier. We only went out twice and remained friendly afterward. Well about five months later I’m shooting the bull with some guys in the office. Come to find out Coworker is pregnant! Word was out she had slept with another guy in the office after me but he was vehemently denying he was the father. At this point people in the office know about us since my roommate worked at the same company. One of the guys says to me “DT, you’re amazingly calm about this. What’s the deal?” I said she and I were together five months ago. If it were mine she’d be showing by now. In actuality I was calm because I didn’t know until just now. I was 99.999% sure it wasn’t mine but I called her that night to get the final .0001%. Nevertheless this brotha would have appreciated a courtesy call to say “hey DT. FYI, I’m pregnant and I’m having it but you’re not the baby daddy so don’t trip.”
What are your thoughts on the courtesy call? For me it is about respect. If I’ve shared a significant part of my being with someone and they’ve chosen to share the same with me I feel they are owed a certain something. How do you define when a relationship reaches that point where the other person is just entitled to be told certain things privately and before it becomes public knowledge? Equally important – when are they no longer entitled to know?
It’s A Numbers Game

So..last night Belle and I had the “numbers” talk. You know the one. The one that sinks otherwise unsinkable ships. The “so what have you done and how many times have you done it” talk. Have you had this talk? If you haven’t do not have this talk. This is not a good talk. Nothing good can come from this talk. Inevitably comparisons are made and apparently for men AND women the competitive juices began to flow.
It was definitely eye-opening on both sides. We plowed through the Too Much Information barrier like a runaway freight train cutting thru melted butter…downhill….on a greased track…loaded with coal. It started off innocently enough. A few easy questions purely for entertainment value. Unfortunately simple questions occasionally require clarification which means divulging details that you may or may not want to know.
Disclaimer – Let me make it perfectly clear Belle’s number was actually quite low. It was only surprisingly in the sense that I naively assumed that I knew everything already…well I missed a couple.
Obviously being older (and a guy) my number was much higher than Belle’s. However taking my age into account I think my number is quite reasonable. She was not overly pleased about this revelation. I think what bothered her most was the fact that all of them, save one or two, were essentially hit & runs or friends w/benefits situations. She was and still is concerned about being “flavor of the month” or worse…yet another temporary diversion from the loneliness of daily life. One would think the fact that we have been involved on some level for nearly two years now would enough to assuage those fears but apparently not. Besides…it wasn’t for lack of trying. Actually it was but I digress.
When it’s all said and done the truth is we have absolutely no reason to be envious of anyone in our SO’s past. They are in the past for good reason. If they were really that fantastic they’d still be where you are right now. Leave it at that. Trust me on this one, folks. Thank you and good night.
My Pops has still got it!

Dang, I just realized something. For my last birthday my dad sent me a check for $42. I was like WTF….how the hell do you come up with 42? Did he mean to write $50? Did he leave off a 1 or somethin. I know he hasn’t read Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Universe (and if you haven’t you won’t get that) so wassup? I seriously thought he was getting Alzheimer’s or something. My birthday was Oct 17 – TWO MONTHS AGO – and I just RIGHT NOW realized that 42 was how old I am. He may very well be losing it…but that sucker is still sharper than me.
ROFLMAO

Mother gets up to 4 years for posing : The Morning Call Online
What do people do at night that makes them wake up and think having Junior photograph them butt naked so they can find an internet hookup is a good idea?

Mother gets up to 4 years for posing
She had her children take photos of her nude, prosecutor says.
By Tyra Braden Of The Morning Call
A former Allentown woman who struck seductive nude poses and ordered her 12-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter to photograph her showed up in court Friday wearing jeans with ”Booty” emblazoned on the left rear pocket and ”Licious” on the right in what appeared to be rhinestones.
Northampton County Judge Stephen G. Baratta sent Julie Figueroa, 43, to state prison for nine months to four years. Figueroa’s adult daughter jumped to her feet as deputy sheriffs clamped handcuffs on Figueroa’s wrists. ”Excuse me!” she shouted. ”Can I say goodbye to my mother?”
”Ma’am,” Baratta said sharply, ”Be quiet.”
”This isn’t fair,” the sobbing daughter screamed.
Figueroa’s daughter continued to cry as she was escorted by a deputy from the courtroom. Baratta told another deputy he would not object to allowing the daughter to speak with Figueroa once Figueroa had been locked in a holding cell.
Figueroa pleaded guilty Oct. 17 to endangering the welfare of children. At that hearing, the adult daughter did not provide her name, but said she was 20. She told Baratta her mother had ”mental disabilities.”
At Friday’s sentencing hearing, Baratta said Figueroa had tried to minimize her actions and initially claimed she was ”a victim of false allegations.” Figueroa was living on Pawnee Street in Bethlehem in March. It was there that she posed and had the children snap photos with a cell phone.
Assistant District Attorney Patricia C. Broscius said Figueroa, when confronted, claimed she posed topless. However, Broscius said, the photographs police recovered showed Figueroa nude and in sexual positions. Figueroa’s attorney, Gilbert J. Negrete Jr. of Bethlehem, told the judge Figueroa had her children take the photos so she could put them on the Internet to find a boyfriend.
He added that ”it wasn’t her intention for her son to have the pictures.”
Baratta said the boy not only had the photos but showed them to some of his friends. Figueroa was charged when her estranged husband saw the pictures and notified police. Negrete told Baratta that Figueroa takes full responsibility for what happened. He suggested that Figueroa needs psychiatric care and not prison.
”What do you think the impact was for the children?” Baratta asked. ”At 12 and 13 their mother involved them in a sexcapade…Aren’t they emotionally scarred for the rest of their lives? Does she really get it? She used her children as a tool to promote her own prurient, and I’m going to say bizarre, harmful goals in attracting men on the Internet.”
Baratta said if he didn’t send Figueroa to prison, other parents would feel free to commit similar crimes. Figueroa said she knows she was wrong, but that having her children taken away was punishment enough.
”I’m thinking that maybe you shouldn’t be allowed to have children,” Baratta said. ”It’s all about you. It’s all about you and your fun and games.”
I’m just sayin…

Pit Bull Puppy Chewed Off Baby’s Toes While Parents Slept

BOSSIER CITY, La. — A pit bull puppy chewed off four of a baby girl’s toes while the child’s parents slept, police here said Monday. The parents were booked on charges of child desertion and criminal negligence and were being held in the Bossier Parish Jail pending an initial court appearance.
Police said the parents were sleeping on a mattress in the living room of their residence and the month-old girl was in an infant seat beside them when the puppy began chewing on their baby’s toes.
Mary Shannon Hansche, 22, and Christopher Wayne Hansche, 26, told police they woke up to the sound of the baby crying, found her mangled foot and took her to the hospital about 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
“They did not see the dog injuring the child,” police spokesman Mark Natale said.
The girl underwent surgery Sunday at Sutton’s Children’s Hospital in Shreveport. There was no way to reattach the child’s toes, Natale said Monday.
The puppy was 6 weeks old and had no record of receiving its shots and will be quarantined for 10 days to check for rabies. Natale said he did not know what the puppy’s fate would be after that.
“The puppy itself was just several weeks old! I mean this was essentially a puppy,” Natale said.
“This puppy might have been trying to nurse on the toes of this baby,” veterinarian Michael Dale speculated. “I know that sounds a little far fetched, but that’s the first thing that comes to my mind.”
Teresa Miller, who sold the puppy to the Hansches, was skeptical the dog did it. “He didn’t chew on anything while he was with me. Out of all of them (in the litter), he was the least chewy.”
Another veterinarian, Dr. Valri Brown, said if the puppy chewed off the infant’s toes, it would not have happened quickly. “It would have to be a period of time — maybe at least an hour,” she said.
Meanwhile, the puppy’s been quarantined at Bossier City’s animal control office for the next 10 days to check for rabies. Natale said he did not know what the puppy’s fate would be after that.
When she is released from the hospital, the child will be placed in a foster home until the case against her parents is settled, officials said.
I have a problem with this story on several levels. First and foremost is the fact that the parents have a mattress in the living room? WTF is in the bedroom? A Chevy up on blocks? Judging by the size of the house they showed on the news the mattress probably took up the entire living room…even if it was a single.
Number two – why are they sleeping while Junior is sitting in a baby chair? Did they intend to leave the lil fella there all night? That can’t be good for his back.
Number three – How long do you figure they were knocked the f*ck out while Fido went to town? I’d bet there were more than a few beer bottles strewn about the room…maybe a blunt or three.
Number four – I believe this proves that the safety of pit bulls around children isn’t just about how you raise them. It’s about how Bubba and Wynonna raise the pit bull’s parents. I actually can’t even fault pit bulls in this case, although I usually do. This is just stupid people doing stupid sh*t.
